NCEEP Efforts to Restore Water Quality in Ellerbe Creek

The North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program (NCEEP) is partnering with UNRBA to involve local stakeholders, develop "atlases" of potential restoration projects to improve and protect water quality and aquatic habitat, and help implement projects. Our efforts to conduct this work in the Ellerbe Creek watershed are currently getting underway. UNRBA and NCEEP are focusing on portions of Ellerbe Creek outside of the City of Durham (the City has its own effort underway, see below).

Ellerbe Creek Local Watershed Plan

In 2002 and 2003, local stakeholders, NCEEP, and the UNRBA developed the Ellerbe Creek Local Watershed Plan. The plan recommends a suite of management practices to protect and restore water quality in the Ellerbe Creek watershed. A brief fact sheet about the project is also available.

City of Durham Ellerbe Creek Watershed Improvement Project

The City of Durham is conducting a large effort to improve water quality in the Ellerbe Creek watershed. Durham is focusing portions of Ellerbe Creek within City of Durham boundaries.
