NCEEP Efforts to Restore Water Quality
in the Upper Neuse River Basin
The Upper Neuse River Basin Association and the NC Ecosystem Enhancement Program are looking for projects in Durham, Wake, and Granville Counties that could be implemented to reduce water pollution.
The project focuses on several specific "watersheds," or drainage areas:
Eno River
- Ellerbe Creek - Ellerbe Creek's watershed drains the most urbanized portions of Durham and flows into Falls Lake as well.
- Ledge Creek - Ledge Creek forms Lake Rogers in its northern reaches and drains to to Falls Lake in the southern portion of Granville County. The Ledge Creek watershed also includes portions of Creedmoor, Stem, and Butner.
- Lick Creek - Lick Creek's watershed also drains the northeastern portion of Durham County into Falls Lake; it is also slated for suburban development.
- Little Lick Creek - Little Lick Creek's watershed drains the northeastern portion of Durham County into Falls Lake and is changing from farms and forests into suburban land uses.
- Swift Creek - Swift Creek is a suburban watershed located in the southern portion of Wake County. Swift Creek's watershed includes land in Cary, Apex, Raleigh, and Garner. Upper Swift Creek forms Lake Benson.
Citizens are invited to learn more about the project and how they can help by visiting these websites or by calling Heather Saunders at 919.558.9319. Landowners interested in participating in stream restoration projects on their property are especially invited to get in touch. Funding is available for projects that meet certain criteria.
